Akwa Ibom State, located in southern Nigeria's Niger Delta region, is known as the "Land of Promise." Established on September 23, 1987, from part of Cross River State, it has Uyo as its capital. The state is rich in cultural heritage, natural resources, and economic potential.
Geography
Location: Bordered by Rivers, Abia, Cross River States, and the Atlantic Ocean.
Climate: Tropical with wet (April - October) and dry (November - March) seasons.
Major Cities: Uyo (capital), Eket, Ikot Ekpene, Oron, and Ikot Abasi.
Demographics
Population: Estimated over 5 million (projected from 2006 census).
Ethnic Groups: Predominantly Ibibio, Annang, Oron, and Efik.

History
Created in 1987 under General Ibrahim Babangida's administration.
Named after the Qua Iboe River, a major waterway.
